HVVFA Parade – Lake George

The Grand Boulevard Fire Company in the Niska Day Parade.

We will be marching for the Grand Boulevard Fire company out of Niskayuna this Sat. 6/20. We marched for them the last time the Hudson Valley Volunteer Fireman’s Association (HVVFA) Dress Parade was held in Lake George. It is an interesting parade as you get/have to march through all the other participants before you reach the start of the parade. It is the only time you get to see a parade when you are in it though it is odd as you are moving and the parade is standing still on both sides of you.

It begins at Mountain Drive and Canada Street and ends at Beach Road and Westbrook.

We marched for the same fire company in the Niska Day Parade this year.

  1. Gail Gail says:

That’s very typical for fire parades. And generally at the end we part and form two ranks for the firefighters to walk through while we play. They are usually very appreciative and sometimes split and formed their own ranks for us to march through.

The other thing I remember from the Lake George parade is that it was so hot that they had snow making machines misting us as we marched through a certain spot. Lots of fun – makes me wish I were not a piper emeritus!

That doesn’t mean you can’t join us, Gail!

  3. Gail Gail says:

True – and I could always carry the flag! But…a new grandson, Jonah Michael, arrived on Monday, and he’s a bigger draw for the weekend. Sorry Ali!
